MANUEL the BAND

and

WESTERNER

Two great Bands,
One awesoem evening!

MANUEL the BAND has made an impression on the Southern California music scene with a unique sound stemming from influences such as John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band and Young the Giant. The band’s lineup consists of Manuel Grajeda (Guitars/Vox) Brandon Charlesworth (Drums), George Madrid (Pedal Steel), Richard Fernandez (Trombone), Kevin Nowacki (Bass), and Matt Kalin (Saxophone).
It isn’t often that folks like myself happen to catch a band they know nothing about and get completely blown away. This my friends, is one of those times. I first caught this eclectic 5 piece at the finals for the 2018 CV Music Showcase where they placed 2nd after Willdabeast and Desert Rhythm Project, (which is a feat for which there is no shame). The flow of their set takes the audience on a beautifully structured, melodic journey with a sound that is sensuously palatable to pretty much anyone. Showcasing multiple genres skillfully and seamlessly, a Manuel the Band show is something you could take your parents to or your kids to and everyone would love it. That’s not to imply that they don’t have any edge because that is certainly something they have plenty of.

WESTERNER is an electronic, psychedelic rock band from LA. They're a ballsy, cocktail mix of psychedelic rock, disco, and trip hop. Think Pink Floyd meets Massive Attack meets late-90s electronica. Their songs are at once danceable and mesmerizing. You're bound to get swept up in this most unusual, confident sound.

A Westerner live show is a phenomenon.  The band delivers catchy pop songs, has a fantastic connection with the audience, and jumps from stage pieces.  Electronic noises are combined with psychedelic soundscapes to create an exciting show that's unlike anything you've seen or heard before.  Music Connection Magazine has included them in their Hot 100 Live Acts list three years in a row (2016, 2017, and 2018).

From their April 2017 issue: "Westerner offer a completely entertaining blend of precision-played psychedelic glam rock. Funky beats and occasional electronics are applied to a showy indie-rock style that can either be danced to or appreciated on a purely musical level. It’s a compliment to say that their music is hard to compare to anybody else’s, but this is definitely life-force-celebrating music, both exuberant and infectious. Some very savvy pop tunes are deftly mixed with space-rock elements....they seem to have appeared from nowhere to emerge as one of the best bands in Los Angeles."

Cooper Bombadil started Westerner after he wrote and recorded their debut album, "Unreal City," a sci-fi rock opera composed of catchy pop songs, surreal sounds, and strange characters.  He then formed a band to play the music live.  After learning the written material the band collaborated on new songs.  Over the years, Westerner has developed an explosive live show and a devoted following.

Mike Gattshall plays with expert skill on the drums while adding texture and atmosphere with his sample pad. Brandon Valerino keeps the people dancing with his groove on bass and spot on backup vocals. Guitar master, Javier Olmedo, takes us into outer space with his playing and effects.

Recent shows include the Beverly Hilton, Good Times at Davey, Wayne's, The Bootleg Theater, AMPLYFi, Whisky a Go-Go, The Satellite, The Viper Room, and Sayer's Club.
