THE OIL BARONS
THE ABSURD is a true power trio, firing off catchy hooks and thunderous riffs with equal potency. Originating from Detroit, now based in Los Angeles, the band is known for their explosive live show. They've "melted the paint of the walls at just about every club" they've played, and have been featured on larger stages at Music Festivals and Gay Pride. Their debut LP was released in 2018, meriting inclusion in multiple end-of-year lists. Their second album, "The Sun Still Rises" is slated for release November 2nd, 2020.
"Their debut album is ... a conflagration of heavy psychedelia that sees Foerg caterwauling over the daunting muscle-flexing of his rhythm section. The album, produced by Joshua Martinez (Rosechild), thunders with serious intent and political overtones. The title track 'Build the Wall' gnaws away at your comfort zone while Foerg bemoans 'sordid ideology,' then exploding in gale-force noise, as if a blast of guitar could blow red hats off heads and into the abyss. If only." - Kevin Bronson, Buzzbands.la
"This highly accessible, yet boldly dynamic rock n roll has [a] combination of infectious vocals, deep throbbing bass lines and impeccable groove [that] is off the charts with both mainstream and underground appeal." - Bucky Brown, The Ripple Effect
"These guys are obviously L.A.’s best kept secret. Build the Wall is a string of raucous, but instantly catchy grunge songs with a clear message and a firm middle finger to the fascist agenda rising in America." - Henrik Thogersen, Hollywood Metal
THE OIL BARONS are a riff-crazed power trio that play Desert Doom Rock, Heavy Psych, and Lounge Metal. They are swindlers, out to rob you of your hearing with their egregious volume. They are con men, duping normies into liking stoner music and metalheads into liking showtunes. They relish theatricality, time changes, and guitar solos. They released their debut LP, The West is Won in March 2019, a 9-min Stoner Metal epic on Halloween later that year, and a follow up EP, Grease Pop, in September 2020. This well is producing. And you just hit black gold, pardner.
"If Tom Waits ever hired a punk group to be his backing band, they'd sound a lot like The Oil Barons." - Pete Williams, Heavy Blog is Heavy
“Tonehonkers and motherfuckers...the last Rock and Roll band.” - Jackson Wargo, Doughnut Records
SALEM'S BEND is a Los Angeles-based heavy rock trio with musical influences that run the gamut from '70s classic rockers to modern heavy-hitters in the desert, doom, psych and stoner rock scenes. Having cut their teeth in different bands around LA for several years, they self-released their debut album on Bandcamp in the tail-end of December 2015. The album garnered some early praise at heavy music blogs, with one reviewer commenting, "You want dynamics? Salem’s Bend is practically a liquid. 'Dynamics' is just a buzz word until it’s wielded by these sprightly upstarts." The album caught the ear of Ripple Music, who signed them and re-released their debut record worldwide in October 2016.
Salem's Bend has been tearing up the local rock scene in Southern California since their inaugural West Coast tour in June 2016 and hasn't slowed down yet. They've shredded the road for over 36,000 miles with tour stints and festival appearances around the Western US and Southwest every few months, including a sold-out SXSW showcase in 2018, a European tour and sold out show at Desertfest London 2019, and other festivals such as More Beers in Hell and Vantopia in Alberta, Canada, to name a few. Their sophomore album was released by Ripple Music on May 24th 2019 and garnered solid praise from the heavy rock blogs, selling out by December 2019. This year is shaping up to be another big year for the band, with festival appearances lined up for Psycho Smokeout 2020 and Planet Mammoth 2020 so far, and more tours and festivals coming soon! Cruise by a live show or your favorite streaming platform to see what all the buzz is about!
